Colmer Estate has 28 acres of beautiful, managed but natural private grounds. This hidden South Hams gem is a nature lover's paradise. With a combination of meadow, carp lake, trails and stream, the estate attracts a huge variety of wildlife: birds, butterflies, dragonflies , foxes, badgers, squirrels, bats, rabbits and the occassional deer in dead of night.
This estate has been completely renovated and developed as a rural estate. During the 19th and early 20th centuries Colmer Estate was an important timber mill. Once the timber mill closed the estate and its buildings became derilict until 1985 when it underwent some conversions to holiday cottages.
The Colmer Stream which still bubbles through the estate flowed to the mill pond and this fed the waterwheel powering the saw mill. The stream then continued on through an underground channel back to the lake. The estate was managed as a holiday retreat until completed and sold off as individual holiday homes. These are a combination of well thought out cottages and apartments in tbe main house.
Not only is this hidden estate loved by wildlife its is adored by the people who own their holiday homes there. Fortunately many of them are available for rent the whole year around.
