River Dart Adventures, near Ashburton, is set in 90 acres of Dartmoor's wildest countryside. As winners of the South West Tourism Award 2012 and 2013, this camping site-cum-adventure park is one of the best out there. River Dart Adventures offers your family an opportunity to camp in the tranquil River Dart Country Park with extensive nature trails and woodland, whilst having a multitude of activities and adrenaline kicks on your doorstep.
Kids can knock themselves out at River Dart Adventures with a Pirate Ship to swing on, a Toddler's Beach to build sandcastles on and a Play Fort to siege. There's also a Spider's Web to navigate, tree houses to set up camp in, as well as a zip wire and Cow's Udders, Snake Slide and Jungle Fun for the brave. During the school holidays things heat up even more with Dare Devil Activities, which include open boat canoeing on the Dart Estuary, a mega zip wire, a high ropes challenge which has now been extended over the river and an indoor climbing and bouldering wall. The most exciting elements of the outdoors come together in one easy location at River Dart Adventures and kids will be looked after by qualified instructors throughout the day. Other Dare Devil Activities include water zorbing and kayaking; you don't need to go to the seaside to get your aquatic kicks! The Dare Devil Activities come at a small extra cost during peak season and work by means of a token system, so stock up and go wild! If you're feeling even more adventurous then take part in one of River Dart Adventure's day activities. Nature lovers have the opportunity to learn something special with a day of outdoor learning with Forest School, whilst thrill seekers can enjoy a day of rock climbing and abseiling out on Dartmoor National Park or some time exploring a local cave. All of these excursions are led by qualified instructors from the nearby CRS Adventures, so rest assured you will be in the safest hands possible. Mountain bike hire is also available from River Dart Adventures and Dartmoor National Park has a brilliant range of terrain to test your skills out on.
After you've worn yourself out with activities, head to The Old Sawmill Bar for drinks and food for the kids as well as stronger tipples for you! The camp site itself, which allows you to stay mere minutes away from the adventure park, is open daily throughout the year except during the Christmas period. River Dart Adventures are particularly hot on being environmentally friendly and use hydro-electric generators which use the river for power, so you really will be experiencing a 'natural' holiday. Dogs are welcome to the adventure park and concession tickets are available. If you don't manage to get everything you want to done in the first visit, don't worry, your ticket entitles you to free return visits within 7 days of purchase! If you live locally, it's worth noting that during term time entry is free.
